What to see and do from Heads Cottage Kentmere
The village of Staveley is 4½ miles from Heads Cottage and has the nearest pubs and shops. You will also find a newsagent, a small Spar supermarket, a decent baker, a superb butcher, a fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs. The Eagle and Child pub does great meals and Wilf's cafe provides a lovely lunch overlooking the river.
Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley is a craft brewery brewing traditional Cumbrian ales with a modern twist and plenty of opportunity to sample the beers in pleasant surroundings!
Kentmere Valley provides a range of excellent walks and cycle rides of varying lengths. A short walk away is the River Kent, which offers wonderful picnic and paddling spots. Close by are a couple of waterfalls and pools deep enough for wild swimming. Also nearby is Badger Rock offering a great bouldering/ rock climbing experience with various routes up to the wild blueberries at the top.
Kentmere Reservoir makes a lovely afternoon's round walk from the Cottage, whilst Kentmere Tarn, further down the valley, offers good fishing between 15 Mar and 30 Sep.
Kentmere Horseshoe is a splendid walk of just over 12 miles and takes in 7 Wainwright Fells; Froswick, Ill Bell, Yoke, High Street, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike and Shipman Knotts.
Great places to visit in the Southern Lake District include Ullswater with Steamer rides, Troutbeck, Kendal and Windermere offering water skiing, lake cruises and the charming World of Beatrix Potter. The Brockhole Visitor Centre with large wooden playground and lakeside access makes a wonderful family day out.
Why not hire a row boat on Grasmere or visit Dove Cottage and Wordsworth House and the Heaton Cooper Gallery. At the southern end of Windermere is the Lakes Aquarium and Lakeland Motor Museum as well as Holker Hall and Levens Hall with magical gardens and stately homes to explore.
Take a trip over Wrynose Pass to the Ravenglass Eskdale Railway or catch the Windermere Ferry to Lake Conistone for another Swallows and Amazons boating experience. Nearby Grizedale Forest offers mountain bike trails, Grizedale Theatre in the Forest and Go Ape.
